Punto de inflexión

Estamos en una etapa interesante de nuestra historia, nuestro modelo cultural (economía, política, sociedad) va a dar pronto los frutos de su fracaso. No soy un aficionado a las catástrofes (ni a sus películas), pero estamos frente a algo gordo.

La democracia occidental ha fracasado en sus objetivos, lo único que ha conseguido durante estos años es dar a sus ciudadanos lo mínimo imprescindible para que no hagan una revolución, para tenerlos tranquilos. La idea de que por votar en un sentido o en otro, una vez cada cuatro años te hace decidir las medidas que toma un gobierno es irrisoria. Además está el hecho de que quien tiene las riendas del juego son los poderes e intereses económicos, nadie que se manifieste en contra de los mercados o de la injerencia de la economía en la política llegará a algún puesto relevante o desde el cual pueda modificar el sistema.

La economía capitalista no economiza, sino que derrocha: obsolescencia programada, comprarte un coche cada 5 años, una batidora cada 2, un mp3 al año y un móvil cada 6 meses; es algo carente de sentido si lo que queremos es economizar los escasos recursos del planeta. El crear necesidades que antes no existían para que la gente compre más es una idea que sólo ha podido salir de la mente de un psicópata manipulador; utilizar a la gente como un medio, un vehículo para enriquecerse es una idea sencillamente abominable. Por no hablar del hecho de que nuestra economía bebe, come, respira y se engrasa con petróleo -y excreta, además, las sustancias más tóxicas imaginables-, una materia prima en vías de extinción. Por que la gente que nos dice que el petróleo se acabará en 50 nos engaña; ya que la pregunta no es "¿Cuándo se acabará el petróleo?" sino "¿Cuándo dejaremos de extraer petróleo tan rápido como para que nuestra economía no se colapse?" y esto ocurrirá de 20 a 30 años en el futuro.

La sociedad actual es extraña. Nos indignamos frente a la corrupción, pero luego no hacemos nada por evitarla (e incluso votamos a políticos corruptos). Creemos que aprovecharnos de los demás no esta bien, pero en cuanto podemos hacerlo, no dudamos. Nos quejamos de nuestros partidos políticos ("que si son todos iguales...", "da igual a quien votes, lo harán igual de mal...") y de los poderes económicos, pero no hacemos nada. Eso podría ser la esencia de la sociedad actual: inacción. Parecemos un rebaño de ovejas que voluntariamente se dejan comer por lobos, sin oponer resistencia. Tal vez se nos haya educado para ser así, pero eso no nos exculpa, uno siempre tiene la capacidad de decisión.

No debemos contentarnos, debemos exigir, o perecer con la cultura que nunca elegimos y que nos está hundiendo, cada vez más rápido. Estamos en un punto de inflexión.

Debemos exigir, exigir un modelo político en el que las libertades individuales sean un mínimo indiscutible, en el que la corrupción y el secreto de estado sean imposibles, en el que todos seamos directamente responsables de las decisiones de la sociedad; debemos exigir un modelo económico en el que no se derrochen nuestros escasos recursos, un modelo en el que no se permita la pobreza, un modelo que cubra las necesidades de todos los seres humanos y que no los utilize como un medio para enriquecer a una minoría; debemos exigir una sociedad despierta, pacífica y honrada, para que cosas como la corrupción, el asesinato, las guerras o los desastres ambientales sean cosas del pasado.

Hay quien dirá que es una utopía y que es imposible. Me pregunto que pensarían los antiguos griegos de la idea de volar, de comunicarse por ondas invisibles o de salir del planeta. No es algo fácil, pero hay algo que es seguro, si nunca lo intentamos nos hundiremos sin remedio. Hay gente poderosa en contra del cambio del status quo; pero ya ha habido poderosos en el pasado que han caído, los de hoy en día tienen un mayor poder de manipulación, pero son tan mortales como los de ayer.

Pensad en ello, pensad que legado queréis dejar, el de una generación que ni si quiera intentó poner freno al desastre, o el de una que lo intentó y (tal vez) lo consiguió.

Turning point.

We are at an interesting stage of our history, our cultural model (economy, politics, society) will soon give the fruits of their failure. I'm not a fan of catastrophes (or their movies), but we are facing something big.

Western democracy has failed in its objectives, the only thing that have obtained during these years is to give to its citizens the absolute minimum to not make a revolution, to keep them quiet. The idea that by voting in one sense or another, once every four years, makes you decide on the measures taken by a government is laughable. Then there is the fact that those who holds the reins of the game are the economic powers, nobody that manifests itself against the market or economic interference in politics will come to a relevant position from which he/she can change the system.

The capitalist economy do not saves, but squandered: planned obsolescence, buy a car every 5 years, a blender every 2, a a mp3 every year and phone every 6 months is something meaningless if we want to save scarce resources of the planet. Creating needs that did not exist for people to buy more is an idea that has only been out of the mind of a psychopath manipulator; using people as a medium, a vehicle, for getting rich is an idea just abominable. Not to mention the fact that our economy drink, eat, breathe, be greased with oil -and also excrete the most toxic substances imaginable- a raw material in process of extinction. The people who tell us that the oil will run out in 50 deceives us, because the question is not "When you run out of oil?" but "When will we stop take oil out as fast as our economy collapses?" and this will happen 20 to 30 years in the future.

Today's society is strange. We are outraged in front of corruption, but then we do nothing to avoid it (and we even vote for corrupt politicians.) We believe that take advantage of others is not right, but as soon as we can do, no doubt. We complain about our political parties ("they are all the same ..."," no matter who will you vote, it will be just as bad ...") and economic powers, but we do nothing. That could be the essence of modern society: inaction. We look like a flock of sheep who willingly let themselves be eaten by wolves, without resistance. Perhaps we have been taught to be so, but that does not absolve us, one always has the capacity to decide.

We must not just be, we must demand, or perish with the culture that we never choose and that is sinking us faster and faster. We are at a turning point.

We must demand, demand a political model in which individual liberties are a minimum indisputable, in which corruption and state secrets are not possible, in which everybody is directly responsible of goverment decisions. We demand an economic model that does not squander our limited resources, a model in which poverty is not allowed, a model that serve the needs of all human beings and do not used as a means to enrich a minority , we must demand a society awake, peaceful and honest, so that things like corruption, murder, war, environmental disasters are a thing of the past.

Some people say it is a utopia which is impossible. I wonder what the ancient Greeks think of the idea of flying, of to communicate by invisible waves or to leave the planet. It is not something easy, but one thing is sure, if you never try, this will sink us without recourse. There are powerful people against changing the status quo, but there have been powerful ones in the past that have fallen, those of today have greater power of manipulation, but they are as mortal as those of yesterday.

Think about it, think what do you want to leave as legacy, a generation that did not even attempt to curb the disaster, or the one that tried it and (maybe) got it.
