El arte actual es un matojo de corrientes y sub-corrientes diferentes que tratan de dar una respuesta a las anteriores cuestiones sin tener en cuenta nada más que el arte en si. Pero todos estos teóricos que hacen arte (sobre todo los minimalistas) se olvidan de que también es una forma de expresión y que tiene la función de despertar sentimientos, impresiones en el espectador que admira un cuadro, una escultura o una performance. La degeneración del arte lo ha llevado a intentar observarse, olvidándose de que un ojo no puede verse a si mismo. Mientras, la enseñanza del arte languidece. A los estudiantes se les llena la cabeza de filosofía barata para que continúen haciendo obras sin significado ni trascendencia, mientras el estudio de como conseguir trabajar un material para despertar algo en el espectador es abandonado. El arte ahora se enseña en facultades, en vez de en talleres y escuelas.
¿Dónde quedó el impresionismo y su necesidad de captar la luz con el pincel? ¿Y el cubismo y sus intentos por representar diversas perspectivas en un mismo cuadro? ¿Y la abstracción que pretendía representar el yo interior de las personas? Han sido desbancados por estos teóricos que miran mucho sus ombligos y los de sus amigos, pero no más allá de sus narices.
Equivalent VIII de Carl André. Al preguntarnos que es esta obra, la unica respuesta del artista es "120 ladrillos"; no hay emociones, ni sentimientos ni humanidad en ella.

Today, works of art that we do are strange. We seem to have stopped painting and making sculptures, in favor of "performance" or bizarre setups. It is not the only thing that have changed; now the art is not about us, their creators, but it is only refered to itself. When we see a piece of contemporary art in a museum and we ask "what is it?" the answer is simply "So what you see, and nothing else." Theorists have taken over the art. It does not matter the technique, or the aesthetic, or materials, may not even care about the work, which becomes a mere introduction to the theoretical work of the artist. The artists have become metaphysical philosophers and, as his works, they are disconnected from society in order to focus on questions like "What is art?", "What is a work of art?", "Who is an artist? ", itself-referencing questions that end in blind alleys without an agreement of the artistic community (such as the traditional philosophy before Kant).
The current art is a clump of currents and sub-currents that try to respond to the above questions without regard to anything more than art itself. But these theorists who make art (especially the minimalists) forget that art is also a form of expression and whose function is to arouse feelings, impressions to the spectator who admires a painting, a sculpture or performance. The degeneration of art has forced the art to try to look itself, forgetting that an eye can not see itself. Meanwhile, the teaching of art languishes. Students are head full of cheap philosophy to continue doing work without meaning or transcendence, while the study of how to work a material to awaken something in the viewer is left. The art is now taught in faculties, rather than in workshops and schools.
What happened to impressionism and its need to capture the light with the brush? And Cubism and its attempts to represent different perspectives on the same picture? And the abstraction which claimed to represent the inner self of people? They have been superseded by these theorists who look much their navels and their friends ones, but not beyond their noses.
Equivalent VIII of Carl André. When someone ask what is this work, the artist's only response is "120 bricks"; there are no emotions, no feelings or humanity in it.
