Nuevas Propuestas

New Propolsals

Economy. A word that comes up everywhere, and yet we know very little of it. What is economics? Well, I think a valid definition would be "study of how human beings try to meet our needs with available resources." Sometimes I get angry (very little, I am used to it) when talking about changing the economic model, someone says "there is nothing better than capitalism, because communism has failed."

Wow ... is that we only have one way to redistribute our resources and its foundations are from two centuries ago. Really, that's the general opinion? If it is not capitalism, is communism, and beyond: nothing. Go back to the definition of economy. Did you reread it? Good. Because then you know there are two key elements: human needs and resources. Human beings, since an immemorial time (approximately s.VII BC) we have used an item called money as an intermediary in the distribution of resources. The nature of money has changed over the centuries, but its role has been essentially the same: to allocate resources. What is the problem? Well, so that it redistributes them in a way that some receive more resources than others, it generates inequalities.

This leads us to wonder in what kind of society we want to live. Do we want a more egalitarian society (also resources) in which all human beings can develop fully, having their needs met? If so (if not, you can stop reading, believe me, you will horrify) why are we using an intermediary (the money) that generates inequality? And not only inequalities, but completely different worlds, one for privileged and other for the rest. Okay, a bit of inequality can be positive, but the thing is that money have no limits, and millions of people have not covered even their most basic needs (they live worse than when we were hunter-gatherers, is that progress?).
A modern hunter-gatherer

After this brief (or so I've tried) introduction, I am about to tell to this economic conformist that economy does not have to be necessarily associated with money. And not only am I going to say it, but I will do outreach, so they do not complain about that there are no new proposals. Caution, the contents set below are (probably) radically different from anything you have read of economy, may lead you to critical thinking and other atrocities. Finally to say that what I am telling is an idea, I do not even agree entirely with it, but at least is new and fresh. And without further ado, I present a model of how to organize a technologically advanced economy without money.

The first thing is to know that we want; otherwise we cannot design any type of economy. I heard a proposal that is pretty good and I will sign it: that the needs of human beings (for now materially) can be covered as many generations as possible. I think is something that anyone could want. Now we begin the design.

Let's start with the resources. Our planet has enough resources, but we are consuming too much and spoiling it. So the first thing is to do a check, we have to know how much of each thing is there in the planet, a kind of global inventory (where there is wind, where reserves of copper, of iron, etc.). The technology for this exists, would only have to create a global satellite network to monitor resources. The following is the extraction and transportation and processing (in the case) of the resources. And our allied is the great enemy of employment: mechanization and robotization. Currently we do have the technology for robots to extract, transport and process resources, without a human in between (well, a couple may have to monitor, but a trifle compared with today). With this, goodbye to trapped Chinese miners, workdays of 16 hours, the lousy pays and the monotonous work. Machines do not get tired or need motivation or anything like that. From building a house for transporting the fruit, through the extraction of oil and the cultivation of the fields will be tasks performed by robots. Of course I must say that the robots do not need compensation of any kind (beyond the energy they need to work).

Well, we already have our resources and consumer goods in the stores. How is redistribution? We could use money, but who would we pay for them?, to the robot?, to the wind turbine? All these products would cost no money, so we must find a way to distribute them.

A good system would be that each district or neighborhood block would elaborate an estimation of their needs (food, clothing or materials needed) every two weeks, and twice a month it would arrive supplies depending on the needs that had been exposed. In other words would be "free." Other products would be in "provide-centers", so it would not be necessary to make one unit of each item for each citizen, with the consequent saving of resources. Since everything is "free" the accumulation of resources by one person does not make sense, why you accumulate grain, if everyone has access to it for free? That this accumulation brings no real power, and therefore is unnecessary.

Now this is not in conflict with private property or the value that each person gives to their personal items (one can own a laptop, clothes and other objects). People who give a service such as teachers or doctors, would do their jobs for "free" as they already have their needs met. And surely now the question which arises is, if all needs are met, why work?

It is clear that everything would collapse without work (anyone would be all day watching its navel), we need technicians to monitor and repair factories, teachers and researchers to develop our technology to not get stuck. This could be achieved by promoting a culture of responsibility and work, which to work looks like a thing you're doing positively for society and for yourself. I do not think people will stand there doing nothing just because they are not compelling (but this is out of the economy and part of sociology).

The only thing we've done is eliminate money as an intermediary, and directly connect supply and demand.

Of course this system requires several assumptions, difficult to achieve. First assume that the planet's resources can still put up with a good redistribution, if we have decimated it too much, forget it. Second, there must be a global organization to take charge of the first part of extraction, monitoring and processing resources. Third, there must be a willingness to do so.

Of course this is just economics, but it undoubtedly will influence politics. Since there is no money (so no taxes), the only function of government will be to define the orientation of the research carried out, making the laws or intervene in cases of natural disasters.

Keep in mind that many of our current problems will disappear once the money disappeared, such as economically motivated crimes (from fraud to theft), drug (if there are objects that have value beyond the personal, how can someone buy drugs?) and crimes whose origin is in the above.

And I do not say that it will be a paradise or something like that, but I think that is an alternative model, which has much to give. Even more, I think it can be also combined with capitalism, creating a mixed economy. Sure there are many unanswered questions regarding your application, and I invite anyone reading this, precisely, to made questions (such as how redistributing scarce resources). Capitalism and communism are obsolete, we need something new, and I invite anyone with ideas to tell them. Because (in my opinion) economists are so locked in their model, that do not see that changing their axioms can be obtained new structures, which can be applicable to the real world.

No, that is not what I am proposing

I do not know how would be the transition from our model to this hypothesis, but I could venture that the mechanization and robotization of work could be an engine for change in economic structure.

After this I'm sure you think I am crazy, but well I guess that's the price for exposing one's ideas, I hope that at least this would make you wonder and make questions about all this things .

Thanks (I can already smell from here the critical comments)

Gracias.

Bullfighting as ideality

Today I wondered why there is bullfighting? Many people think, and it seems quite reasonable, that is a form to reconcile with our past. One way to unite us with our hunter ego, what we have been for thousands of years. And when one contemplates bullfighting may think it's true. You can see the blood, the feints, the eyes of the frightened bull looking for an exit, an escape, while the bullfighter spins, lurking, waiting for his moment to take another stab more, to deliver the final blow. The public seems to return to its past, live the hunting shouting, encouraging hands and body. The sand is stained with blood. The bull throws its last roar, like calling for help, or indeed, to warn the rest of, that in that place death rules. More than a relief, the bull is shouting "run, run with all your might to escape the slaughter" Unfortunately for his fellows, they are locked and can do little to escape. Finally, after a prolonged agony eventually the bull succumbs, and the bullfighter is covered with the glory of the ancient hunter, he has brought the meat home.

Lie. There is no truth in those sentiments. The square is just a scenario in which actors pretend roles, and one of them must death. The bull is not a wild animal in its natural habitat and with all his might. Often is presented to us a frightened beast, out of place, even drugged. It does not seek a fight; it has nothing to defend, and much to lose. In a square, the bull is searching the escape, the freedom, not a confrontation. And much less a confrontation with us. The bullfighter is not a hunter, does not kill the bull because of a necessity, but for show, to satisfy an audience that wants to deny his inferiority complex against nature, against wild. The bullfighter does not stage a fight for survival, but a fight in which civilization tries to dominate nature. Look at his costume, is a hunter's outfit? No, it's a suit covered with shiny and elaborate trinkets, the waste of the civilized world.
It's not a hunting is a ritual. Hunting is a plan, but also improvisation in order to the circumstances. In a square is all controlled so that the ritual is performed in the order, without skipping any steps, all the fighting takes place orderly, first one thing then another and finally, death. Did you realize that one of the last steps is to nail flags in the bull? That does not remember, perhaps, when European colonists stick their flags in the virgin lands? It is not even a good representation of the hunting, since bullfighting is focused on the death of the animal, the least important in a hunt, in which cooperation, planning, persecution and other elements are much more important. In fact the hunter accepts himself as part of nature, not as its executioner.

And they say that the bull dies proudly facing its rival in a death fight. Have they asked the bull about the pride? And if I did, what merit has to fight against someone who you cannot win? Because face it, the bull has no chance to survive, while if the matador is threatened, he can always escape to the safety of the parapet or claim for the aid of his companions. There are nothing such an equaled fight never has been; only a death sentence, performed with the greatest possible suffering and humiliation. The animal should be trodden, must feel pain, it shall know, even better, we shall know that we are superior, that we are above the wild, above the animal. Humiliation as a show of force to ourselves, or rather as a comfort, because soon we know that even if nature trampled in the arena, we are at the mercy of droughts, storms, diseases and floods.

Bullfighting must end not only because it's a disgusting spectacle for compassionate nature we wish to develop as individuals, but it must die as part of the death of the idea that man dominate the wild (as if we could separate the wild of our nature), as the end of our supreme arrogance against mother nature and the beginning of accepting that we are part of this planet, we are part of animal life, and not a separate entity that can look down on the rest.

Thanks

Te has de limitar
A hacia arriba mirar
Con tu boca sonríes
Esperando ser correspondido
Mientras mal disimulas el miedo escondido.

Son como el mar
Fuerza de la naturaleza
A la que solo puedes mirar,
No tienes la entereza
Para poder navegar.

Colosos de fuego ardiente
Avanzando por la llanura
Te abrasa el aire caliente
Profunda mordedura
Y se pregunta tu mente
Si no serás aplastado.
Deconstruido.
Despedazado.
Herido.

Revitalizando tu savia caduca.

Gracias.

Career in science ... what a scam!

I still remember the great fear which represented for my parents that I declared, back in secondary, I wanted to study archeology (or paleontology in the absence of it). After much prodding I became convinced to do "science." One of the arguments which they repeated over and over again was that of employment: "In a career of letters you are only going to be working as a teacher “,” You will not find ever work with the letters”. So I, like many other people I've met, was convinced that experimental science would lead me to a stable job, well paid and which would serve humanity: wonderland.
But it was the end of high school and we were starting to hear thunder storm in the distance, warning us that all was not pink, but it was too late to turn the boat. And once you reach college you start learning that there are scientists out of work, investigations are commanded by the payer and you will not see a decent salary until you are bald and gray. Dad, Mom, you were wrong; you would have to put me to speculate!
It seems that in this country you should be poor for be popular (except athletes). According to a report Metroscopia scientists are the professional group most valued (page 9 http://bit.ly/p4x6zQ) but one of the countries that invests less in R & D in the Western world. This is an old problem for Spain. By 1906 there were scientists (international) who were surprised when a Spanish, Ramón y Cajal, shared the Nobel Prize. And within Spain itself, Miguel de Unamuno made it very clear national feeling with his famous "Let them invent!" (referred to the other countries). And so it goes. I have no figures but it seems to me that Spain is a major exporter of brains, to the dismay of the people he sees as the entire investment in education made by the State goes to Germany, France, UK or U.S.A. among others.

+What do you feel, being one of the top researchers of this country?
-I'm hungry

My teacher of advanced instrumental techniques suggested that someone write an article about science education, and in that moment I remembered something he said about science exhibitions for children that extend to them illusions checks that cannot be charged *.

From my humble position as a student of biotechnology say that it seems unfair, scientists (or at least I think that the vast majority) work for the love of knowledge and human progress (or otherwise would have gone to economic or right) and we pay them with ridicule in our popular culture, a meager salary and limitations in the research fields, and above this they should be grateful for the state. I'm not saying we should give them executive salaries or "ferraris", a fair treatment is enough.

Biologist researcher

And now my neck will be launched by all the "realists" who insist in saying that nothing can change, that the rulers will never fall, and they will own the big part of the pie while the rest of us settle for the crumbs (and scientists for the crumbs of crumbs). They may be right, but then I imagine them in the eighteenth century saying slavery is impossible to abolish, blacks will never have any rights or anything like that. Or in the tenth century saying that the servants belong to his feudal lord and that it will be per secula seculorum.

Well, it seems that (inevitably) I ended up talking about utopias, no choice.

Summing up, how we see science education. For students we see it screwed (if it had not become clear), because (almost all) we have assumed that of our promotion is only going to work on research the first one (and as much the second as well). It is not that I think that we should not acknowledge the merits of that more skills and hours of work he made, but we must also assume that not everyone can be number one, although they tried with all his might. I think the threshold is too high. And, whose fault is it? The low demand, because there is little money and energy invested in research. Everything leads us to the same.

-Interesting curriculum, but how do you see yourselve in 5 years?

+Welcome to chilis, do you want me to reed the entrees?
+The most I think about it, the most it gets worst
-It's normal in the industry

This pessimism is evident when we joke (half seriously) about the futility of know how a spectrophotometer works if we are going to work in a junk food establishment.

"Get rich cost me what is yours"

* About children's science exhibition, on reflection, I think the problem is not to give them wings, but to cut it to give to another people who do much less for humanity, claiming more.

Thanks.
